In 2021 I had the pleasure of leading the rebuild of the STV News mobile app for iOS and Android.
The app was designed and engineered by a tiny team of two (myself included) crafting the app to be as fast as possible with buttery smooth UX. We used Flutter as a framework and it has been a joy to work with the official Flutter components.
The app is powered by a bespoke API that generates the UI based on the data sent via the API. The API responses are served via Cloudfront which is giving us an average response time of <100ms and allows us to handle huge traffic spikes.
I'm still on the product team and continuing to work with STV journalists to add new editorial features and improvements to the app.
